From the time my Luke was little there was what I call red flags. Things that seemed odd. I really didnt think much of them until later. He didnt have any real words. Ran, Stomped, and spun all day. He had these little ticks. One day when he was around one we had an Early Intervention teacher come in to evaluate him. That was the day I learned about Sensory Processing Disorder. It all made sense then. But, I was stunned I had never heard of this before?! Autism is 1 in 80 yet Spd is 1 in 20. How had I heard of Autism and not Spd. From that day forward we have worked a lot with Luke. To make eye contact, get use to everyday things, even talk. Although we still have no real words we do have some signs. He has come such a long way. We may always have to do things a little differently but knowing was half the battle. He is so smart, loving, and funny. He is mommy's little man.
