I wanted to make this a great Christmas for my little ones. This is Chloe's real first Christmas and I think the first Christmas Luke will understand Santa. Now having two toddlers I know that no matter what they will touch the tree. So that gave me a thought! What if everything on the tree was something we made! That way it is ok for them to touch it and look at all the fun things we have done. I started this before thanksgiving because I like putting my tree up the day after. We have come up with so many ideas. I have not finished them all so this blog post will be spread out into different chapters I guess.
FIRST: I started by finding everyday things I can turn into ornaments. Old gift boxes, some blocks, an old worn out novel.
SECOND: I made sure I had lots of ribbon to hot glue so we could hang out homemade ornaments.
THIRD: I made fake cookies to hang on the tree.
All you need is equal parts cinnamon and apple sauce. For a small batch use a half cup of each. Scoop onto a piece of wax paper. Then press another piece of wax paper on top. Use a rolling pin to spread out the mixture. Use cookie cutters of your choice and trim excess dough. Make sure to cut a hole at the top. Then let dry 24hrs. After you can have the kids decorate if you wish.
FOURTH: Let the kids rip strips from the pages of the novel use the strips to make snowflakes, Stars, or even flowers to hang on the tree.
